Designations

When a person starts up a Company, the designation of Director will be free for their use. What's shocking is when such a Director, cannot even write a comprehensive letter, which makes grammatical sense.
Perhaps, Registration Boards, should also set aside some requirement for such people to at least have some basic skills in language. It's disgusting to know a person is a Director of a Company, yet having very lame writing skills - I am sure, many towkays, not fluent in the English language, will hire some secty or PA, with good writing skills to deliver the message. After all, it is telling on the organisation and the person.
I'm not saying that everyone must have had a distinction in English language in school, but at least some sentence structure should have been learnt. When a badly structured letter goes out, it doesn't just give a bad impression, it has the tendency to fail in delivering the content or intent.

I think there must be some segregation in giving out designations.
There are some people so hard-up to be a director, they would set-up a company, and try to start a mini-dictatorship with language flaws. My ex-partner is the classic example. Just because she started a company, she's flaunting her designation all over, sending badly written emails with poor sentence and grammatical structures. The cream of this cake is, she thinks she's brilliant. What she needs is a shrink. It's so embarassing.

Being a Self-Made Person

I always held high respect for people who are self-made i.e. succeeded by own merits. In a world where people are so easily recruited to become slaves to money, it's with awe whenever I am in a circle which included such self-made people.
Some people marry into money, I'm sure there is nothing wrong with that in their books - it could be their good fortune or a marriage of convenience. Some people give up their social life to climb the corporate ladder - nothing wrong with that either - it's a personal choice. Some others con people of money to get it for themselves - nothing wrong with that either, if the conned party deserves it. Some people become a little like robin hood - nothing wrong with that too -

What will be wrong is when a person becomes so obsessed with money because they have attributed that to be tagged with power and control. That is not morally correct. Money buys a lot of comforts, money pays bills too - but when we sell our principles because of money, then we are not a person anymore, but a commodity which could be bought by the highest bidder.

In my life, I have had moments when I could have chosen an easier option to obtain money - but being an odd-ball, I have my doubts about taking the easier route. I have lived with this personal mantra of seeking 'suffering' when I have the energy to 'suffer' and look forward to 'less suffering' when I have one foot in the grave. I believe very much in the fact that everyone has to 'suffer' setbacks either early or late in their lives - I opted to do it early - it gives me time to do rectification - corny, but true for me.

What motivated me to write this piece is : watching a 50 year old woman, still trying to hang on to control and power, using money against people. A woman who married into money, not because of love, but because it was convenient for her. A woman who is such a slave to money, that she openly gave up her religion just so she could have her hand in the pot of honey. It's fine to practice another religion, but when a person picks and choose which laws of the religion she wishes to follow is another issue. She maintains her original religion which forbids certain practices but she does it anyway to keep her inheritance by marriage. Disgusting.
Then she goes around telling everyone she's a self-made person.
I think she needs a dictionary.
that is not self-made, that is conning of the self.

stereotyping

How do we get out of streotyping people? It's tough really because perhaps certain behaviours/predispositions are culture based. I'm using the term 'culture' broadly. How did a person become a control freak? well, perhaps they never had the opportunity to supervise without being supervised at the same time - also perhaps their family never gave them the respect of any hardwork-type achievement, so they had this grabbing mentality. Perhaps they always conned their way and got away with it, making it tough when their good luck expired and they are left with just rotten, negative energy.

I try not to stereotype, but it's difficult, because stereotyping a person usually means negatively. A person is prone to gambling because he's from this culture - that's one example. A person is loose, because she's from this culture.

People must really live up to their stereotypes since newer labels are seldom found - it's always the same ole label for the same group differentiation. There must therefore be some truth in it for it to be there - in fact not just some truth, it must have some large random sample that became a universal observation.

Whatever the case, stereotyping will be here to stay, unless people start living life, the way we are supposed to. That is, as contributing citizens, considerate friend, sincere business associate and so on and so forth.

gut-feel or sixth sense

There were many occasions where I thought of something and then it happens. Could it be that we all do have some sort of sixth sense, or that time is really an overlapping thing, and we are just living in one period of a time in our lives, having walked this life numerous times over?
This is not religion - my religious beliefs keep me on track - by that I mean, it keeps me from being a total failure at having empathy. I do believe in GOD and I do believe that GOD gives and GOD takes.
BUT there are many times when we feel that we have been there, or done that - which stirs some confusion - I wasn't born with supernatural gifts which would allow me to soul travel or disappear at will. I do not even have the knowledge about esp which apparently is some sixth sense which some mammals of a higher order may have some clue about, which we humans are still grappling with.
Perhaps it's just gut-feel.
I do wonder why gut.
If we are talking about sixth sense, why not head-feel, or mind-feel, or brain-feel...why gut?
Perhaps we are all just motivated by food....after we toy long enough about this and come up with no answers, we would all probably just take a time-out and have a cuppa...and continue discussing, after filling our gut - which also means having spent some cents (sense) probably, this idea was coined when coffee cost six cents.

Getting down to it

Having been based on site for most times the past few years with occasional island-wide viewings, last two weeks must have been the busiest. Even my team-mates are not used to this madness.
No matter what our job calls for, it's great to be positive and get down to it. This not only ensures we deliver, but that we provide a more sincere approach for clients. As we are a small group, and likely to remain the same size as a preference, there is this necessity to be different so that we will be remembered for our diligence. What we are able to do different is in terms of performance and advice. None of my partners are compelled to talk shop only in positives. Our mantra will be to be honest in sharing our professional opinion. Something one can never do when working in a huge organisation, because management probably attended some self-improvement/motivational training.
What is motivational should never be the dishonest truth.
We should be rightly motivated not deliberately swayed because of corporate bull.
So, busy as we have been, everyone is very committed to our new mantra.
Kill the competition by our sincerity in getting the job done.

New Highs

It's great to always have time on your hands again - not that it's good to be totally free but at least to have a choice. Although I was helping a friend do some admin back-up work, it did choke my time and now that the projects done, I'm definately feeling less rushed.
Some people are just comfortable with routines, and some people are just not. I'm one of those who get bored of routines and need some element of variation to perk up my day. It's not that I need change all the time, I just cannot be bothered to be tied down to something indefinately, without a clear, big, picture.

My next assignment is due soon, so I'm about to start work on it. It's never routine when it comes to assignments since the topics are always different - keeps my mind thinking new stuff and changing the orientation viewpoint. Although I wouldn't go too far to say that I'm adventurous, I do soak in new stuff better.

I've lived my life with little adventure but always on the side of a dare.
Although I may not have had the opportunity to climb up a corporate ladder after a thousand of years in service, I always had an elevator who took me there in half the time - and when that's done, I'm done too. Perhaps that's why some people find new heights to scale - finish Kinabalu, find Himalayas....break this record, go for the next......perhaps, I'm a little similar, except that I'm lazy and not into body-breaking activities.

So whilst I ease myself into my assignment, a small part of my mind would be searching for another new high. I did start calling for voluntary spots, but I wasn't really desperate since I won't really know how far behind I am in my readings, until end of Sept which will be closer to our finals - I will probably still squeeze time in to do that since I have this gut feeling that it's time I returned to what I was trained to do.

salary is paid, retrospectively

What does it mean to be 'employed'? OR What does it mean to be as an 'employee' in terms of money?

When we employ someone, we agree that that person will work in an assigned capacity and be paid an agreed sum after a month. When we are an employee, we do what is assigned and when the last day of the month arrives, we expect to be paid the agreed sum, or what we call 'salary'.

What happens when after a month, the employer says, he needs to review the work you have done, before he signs off on your cheque?
I say, TROUBLE.

This is what a friend of mine couldn't understand.
I was explaining that when companies hire, they have to pay what's contracted, without questions. If the employee is not suitable for the job, then the salary STILL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED, and a notice given for termination.
Frankly, I have never, ever come across a similar situation like this, where a contracted staff is being refused payment, until they reviewed his work. Work appraisals come once a year or whenever the company is doing a down-size, upsize, or shuffle.....not when salary is due - that to me, is too convenient a way out.

Strange thing though, my friend, didn't think there was anything wrong with that. I suppose when you're working for your cousin, you need to probably make sure you're on your cousin's side, but what happened to employees rights?
It's sad when people decide to pay salary retrospectively.
Thankfully, this is the first I've come across.

Was it Jet Lag?

What exactly is Jet Lag?
Well, in terms we know, it means we probably travelled across time zones, so our body is confused about the timing for waking and sleeping.
Key word : Across Time Zones.

Most times, when I go across time zones, I don't suffer so much from jet lag, that's because I adjust on flight - but this little short trip, which was within the same time zone, and just kept the plane some 20mins at cruising altitude - caused me havoc.

It took me some 24 hours to recover - so very odd.

It could be because of the traumatic experience - which I will post later on - or it could just be the commute by road, which took forever.

My team-mate told me that when I spoke to him (over the phone) yesterday, he told his wife that I sounded like I was down with flu! Strange.
Well, jet lag or just trauma, I'm back to normal......almost.

Everyone is excited about this new 'job' so we are all planning to drive up there (again) in two cars this time since it's crazy to fly north and go south by road to the site. The drive would probably take us 3 hrs, since it takes anyone about 3hrs to KL by road.
Maybe then, I won't suffer from jet-lag....maybe it will be car-lag!

I can appreciate people who really take days to recover - because it's really about being tired at the wrong time.

Tides

This is amazing - Low Tide. I was busy watching the Jumping Johnnies and tiny crabs on the mud. I have no idea what you call the sand when it's apparently pretty much like quicksand. People were busy walking far our, as far as you can see the piles - picking Kupang and LaLa. We had some really fresh ones for dinner - it's juicy and yummy.

Just moments ago, the seabed was like a bathtub, full of water....and then after breakfast, POOF, it was all gone! Amazing, circle of life - circle of time, whatever you want to call it - it will never cease to amaze me.

The volume of water that just vanishes and gives way to an entirely different pre-occupation - should serve as a reminder for everyone, that we should be mindful of mother earth and we should cherish and save our environment.

KLIA

This is the first time I actually landed at KLIA - as most times I don't take a flight there - KLIA is really far from the city and getting stuck in an endless bumper to bumper traffic is not my cuppa.

But because I had to get to a site that's near KLIA, going by flight was the best option.

These shots were taken before departure - it was storming earlier and slowly working to a heavy drizzle. It wasn't the best shot ever, but I just wanted one for posting.
It may probably be my last ever trip out of KLIA, unless I'm heading towards the site again, which still may not happen because I still think it's faster by road. I wish I got a picture of the F1 track though, but the vehicle we were all travelling in was going too fast for a clear shot...
